A small milestone for me: my code-first GitHub repos just crossed 100k stars. I’ve been on GitHub since 2014, starting with learning frontend and reading good code, then turning real work and personal needs into open source.…Show more

Over the years I’ve built projects like Weex UI, Form Render, MiaoYan, Pake, Mole, and XRender, across Rust, Swift, Shell, and TypeScript. Most of them started because I needed them.

These days I spend more time on product decisions than writing code itself, thinking about constraints, tradeoffs, and whether something is worth building at all. Open source keeps bringing in interesting people, and that feedback loop still matters most.

If your Apple Silicon MacBook lives on a charger, this is worth a look: a battery charge limiter for M1/M2/M3 Macs.

It provides both CLI and GUI controls to cap charging around 80%, which can help reduce long-term battery wear for always-plugged-in setups. It’s free, open-source, and the project is committed to staying that way.

> brew install battery

I recently found a great project on GitHub: Gatus. It’s a developer-friendly health dashboard for monitoring services via HTTP, ICMP, TCP, and DNS checks, with a clean status page. You can validate results with conditions like status code, latency.

Mole, the Mac cleaning tool that can free up tens of GBs in one go, just shipped an update. Huge thanks to the contributors who keep Mole moving. v1.23.2 is out.

This release focuses on safer, smarter cleaning: JetBrains Toolbox old IDE cleanup with whitelist-safe handling…Show more, Puppeteer and Chromium automation leftovers removal, plus orphaned system services detection. It also adds stronger guardrails like auto-enabling system cleanup when sudo is active, excluding Flutter/CocoaPods/Pub dev caches to avoid breaking builds, and better handling of SIP-enabled system update package cleaning.

Reliability and UX improved across the toolchain: mo uninstall fixes edge-case crashes and protected app handling, mo analyze is more accurate with a cleaner interactive experience, and mo status adds uptime plus unified version checks. I’ll share a contributor shout-out image next.

If you invest, I strongly recommend exporting your holdings and trade history and sending them to Manus for a full review. I tested it against Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, and Gemini, and it gave me the most useful results.…Show more

It feels like handing your records to an experienced portfolio manager: they dig through the data, run real analysis and lookups, then deliver a solid report with clear strengths, weaknesses, and a few hard truths about what you’ve done wrong in the past. I found it genuinely helpful.

If you spend time reading logs in the terminal, tailspin is worth adding to your toolbox.

It colorizes logs by scanning each line with smart regex patterns (timestamps, numbers, severity levels, etc.) without assuming any fixed format. No config, no setup — it just works across different log files and streams.

brew install tailspin

MiaoYan is a lightweight, native macOS Markdown editor for writing and notes — one of my open-source macOS projects.
github.com/tw93/MiaoYan

It just shipped its biggest update to date, introducing Split View for side-by-side Markdown editing and live preview…Show more, with smooth bidirectional scroll sync. This release also brings a full visual refinement, layout cycling between sidebar, list, and focus modes, faster startup with native window animations, and broad performance improvements across editing, preview, and export.

Built entirely in Swift, not Electron. MiaoYan is local-first, requires no account, collects no telemetry, and avoids AI features by design. I built it for clean Markdown, performance, and a calm writing environment.

I discovered a fascinating website called Microsculpture, where you can explore insects in incredible detail through high-resolution images.

You can zoom in and examine tiny details up close. Not recommended if you’re afraid of insects, but if you enjoy curious and unusual things, it’s definitely worth a look.

Mole v1.20 is out. There are quite a few fun additions this time, so I will leave the details to the changelog. Before getting into that, I want to share a personal story behind this release.…Show more

Ten years ago, when I was a sophomore, I found Hackers and Painters in my university library. That book deeply influenced how I think about engineering and about myself. It helped me realize that engineers are not only problem solvers, but also builders with taste and a sense of beauty.

Since then, I have tried to build things that are simple, useful, and pleasant to use. Mole is one of those attempts. Through building it, I unexpectedly had the chance to connect with Paul Graham, which still feels a bit surreal.

Open source has brought Mole a lot of encouragement from developers around the world. It has also brought some doubt and unfair assumptions, simply because I am a Chinese developer, and at times that has been painful. Still, far more people have been kind, curious, and generous with their time and feedback. I believe open source should be open, friendly, and free from politics. Code has no nationality.

English is not my first language, but I enjoy connecting with developers everywhere, and I hope we can keep building and learning together.

Mostly, yes — Mole primarily frees up disk space.

In general, junk on disk doesn’t slow down a healthy macOS system by itself. Where people sometimes notice a difference is indirect: bloated or stale caches can make apps do extra work…Show more, and very low free disk space can increase I/O pressure. Clearing outdated temp data can also force apps to rebuild fresh state.

Mole isn’t a performance tool. Any speedup people notice is situational and indirect, not a guarantee.

Tw93 · · Reply · Products

Hi Paul — I’m the author of Mole.

The main culprits are mostly unglamorous things: app and system caches, logs and temp files, old browser leftovers, developer tool caches, and remnants from apps that were already removed. On macOS these can quietly grow to tens of gigabytes.…Show more

Mole focuses on cleaning only those categories and does it conservatively. It’s rule-based, blocks critical system paths outright, and offers dry-run previews so users can see exactly what would be removed before anything happens. The goal is to remove accumulated junk without risking system stability.

A lot of great Mac apps aren’t on the App Store and usually need to be downloaded from websites or GitHub.

Found a nice app called Applite - it lets you search and install apps in one click, discover good software, and uninstall cleanly. A pretty smooth all-in-one experience.

Pake v3.7.2 is out. an update to my open-source project for turning any webpage into a desktop app with one command. github.com/tw93/Pake

This release focuses on performance, correctness…Show more, and build reliability. Binaries are now smaller and faster thanks to Rust release-profile optimizations with LTO. Media handling is improved so images and videos from CDNs are correctly previewed in-app instead of being treated as downloads. Builds are also more efficient with local icon reuse and a move from axios to native fetch.

Error handling has been cleaned up with safer Rust patterns and clearer messages, especially on macOS. Linux packaging is now more consistent across DEB, RPM, and AppImage formats, and the test suite has been expanded alongside dependency upgrades including Tauri v2.9.5.
